I was challenged ahem, a little while ago, to post at least two paragraphs on what makes me happy. Khlari set me this challenge which was first set to her by Spicy Cauldron whose instructions were:
“Now, I have a meme for you to start off. I’m calling it Write Me Happy. You have to write a post that ONLY contains references to the things in your life that make you happy, contented, fulfilled, etc etc. NO NEGATIVES. Tell the world some good stuff in your life. At least two decent paragraphs. No one-liners. No snappy sentence and that’s it.”
FAMILY
Well one huge thing in my life that makes me happy is my son … here’s an old picture of him, he’s a lot more camera shy nowadays and I thought I’d better not post a current picture of him without checking … him being 15 and all
)
He’s thoughtful and happy to give his mam a hug, doing well at school and even visits relatives with only minor grumbling. He’s practically a man but he’ll always be my baby and I love him to bits (see why no current photo or full name, embarrassment factor way too high lol). He’s even started talking to me about stuff apart from his computer/ps2 games, huge reason to be happy
D
My mam has stood by me so much recently, made me realise how blessed I am to have her around still and that I am able to talk to her about many things.
FRIENDS
This is another biggie for me … it’s the second Saturday of the month and I’m off to Morecambe “GURANGA” I shout as I pass under the bridge. Shout out guranga and be happy I’ve seen on stickers and the word itself on bridges over the road, in particular on a bridge over the motorway as I get near Morecambe … so I do it, I’m feeling happy and I should out GURANGA and it makes me smile even more. I did so on the way home from work today … “GURANGA, it’s the weekend and I’m going to see my friends!”
I am blessed with many friends some who I see only in the ‘real’ world, others I see here in cyberspace and best of all some I see in both
) Spicy Cauldron & SunnyD, Amethyst Dragon & TNO, Khlari & Mr A, Silent, Magrat, Debs, Pam. I have other friends, good friends, but these are my core, my heart … the people who’ve been there for me and who I’d do anything in my power for. Friends are the family you choose, a very big reason for smiling
)
PLACES
Daft it may sound but places can make me happy too, Morecambe makes me happy cos that’s where most of my friends are. Friar’s Cragg makes me happy in a peaceful way, I am more able to connect to myself and mother earth when I’m there among the trees. It’s best when visited in the early morning as in this photo but is soul satisfying at any time. I love going for walks in the woods and
along the seashore. I love it in all weathers, when its warm and sunny and I can walk along the shoreline in bare feet without them freezing, when it’s cold and I lose the feeling in my toes, when it’s a howling gale and I’m all wrapped up feeling soooooo alive with the sea fret blowing in my face
)
Paganism
I was brought up in a very Christian family, both my parents were Sunday school teachers and my dad was a church elder. Then I found paganism, or it found me, whichever lol. The freedom to search, to look and simply know that things didn’t feel right and it was okay. The simple joy of constantly learning makes me very happy. The fact that there is no guilt, respect is the name of the game, respect each other and the world. The cycle of nature, it just feels so right
)
CRAFTING
Ah this time I mean the other sort of crafting, making things
) I love making things, I make cards, do scrapbooks, I’ve made earrings, done cross-stitch, I can do scoubies, I can crochet a square, I used to be able to play the organ (would need much practice before would do so in public cos so very rusty lol).
Give me the time, space & equipment and I’ll try and make just about anything. Creating is just so satisfying and joy making especially if its a something special for someone special
D I’ve even managed to make a couple of skirts for myself lol My most recent love, courtesy of my mobile phone, is taking photos … mostly of trees cos as I think I’ve said trees make me happy, you can feel the flow of ages in them and they have such stories to tell.
BOOKS
Reading makes me happy, I can escape into anther world, explore this one, learn lots of wonderful things. One of my all time favourite authors is Anne McCaffrey, another is Terry Pratchett, I’ve also recently enjoyed reading a couple of Dan Brown’s books. There are many many more but I have difficulty remembering names *blush*
Happy ….
Happy …
What else makes me happy?
Driving along in my car, the freedom, especially with some music blaring out of my Q-be, some Saxon or Meatloaf, Mika or Sandi Thom, the Harpbreakers or Rose Among Thorns, Olly Alcock, David Peabody or Lightin Willie and the Poorboys.
Simply sitting in the sun enjoying the warmth on my face brings a peaceful joy to my soul.
Going camping, exploring castles and stone circles and new bits of countryside.
Getting post, either emails or snail mail … I love getting snail mail and always know if it’s going to be a really good one cos it’s got my pagan name on it not my legal name
D
Whow I started doing this well over two hours ago, there are so many more things that make me happy than I’d realised … thanks for this meme Khlari, and thanks Spicy for thinking of it in the first place. I haven’t a clue who I can tag so I’ll leave that aspect for now, will come back and do that after the weekend
)
What’s going to make me happy now is getting some sleep so I am full of energy for a weekend with my friends
D
